Q4 And Medium-term Outlook: During Q3, NOV (NOV) recorded $951 million in new order bookings, representing a 1.4x book-to-bill ratio, a steep rise from 0.66x a quarter earlier. Despite the order growth, the company sees near-term challenges from inflation and project delays. In the long term, the offshore and international activity should rise. The management believes its cost discipline and global scale will drive higher profitability, strong cash flow, and long-term shareholder returns.
In Q3, NOV won major offshore contracts, including a MEG reclamation system (a specialized processing unit) for a Black Sea FPSO and multiple gas development projects across the Middle East and Mediterranean. It upgraded three ultra-deepwater rigs and used the NOVOS and MMC systems (automated drilling optimization platform) in offshore Guyana. Its ATOM RTX robotic system debuted in the U.S. Permian Basin, enhancing safety and drilling efficiency. The company secured flexible riser and flowline orders for deepwater projects in Brazil and Guyana.
Revenue and Operating Income in Q3

In Q3 2025, the Energy Products and Services segment witnessed a quarter-over-quarter revenue fall (5% down). Not only that, the segment saw a drastic operating income decline (54% down) in Q3. The Energy Equipment segment saw both revenue and operating profit rise steadily (3% and 7%, respectively) during this period.
Lower global drilling activity, infrastructure project delays, a less favorable sales mix, and tariffs and inflationary-related pressures contracted margins for the Energy Products and Services in Q3. On the other hand, strong demand for Process and Flow Technologies, particularly aftermarket sales and production solutions, drove sequential margin expansion in Q3.
Cash Flows And Repurchases: NOV's cash flow from operations decreased marginally in Q3 over a year earlier. FCF declined by 16% in the past year. Debt-to-equity (0.27x) deteriorated marginally from a year earlier. The company repurchased 6.2 million shares in Q3 and returned a total of $108 million in capital to shareholders in Q3.
